Fragments of Light Nº 1: Snapshots
It feels like only yesterday we were celebrating New Year's Eve, and now the beginning of March is already upon us. The first two months of the year have flown by, almost unnoticed. But with March comes the gentle realization that summer awaits us in just about ten weeks.
In recent weeks, I've dedicated myself intensively to my projects and reflected a lot on my photography—its essence and its technique. I recently decided to buy a simple point-and-shoot camera, one I can always have with me and use quickly, whether traveling or as a second camera. An act of downsizing, so to speak.
After experimenting with several different models, I finally settled on the Ricoh GRIII. Its compact design and versatility appealed to me. But while using it, the idea began to take root that I wanted to be even closer to the action. A link online led me to the GR III X, which, with its 40mm focal length, offered exactly what I was looking for. Since then, I've used it to capture everything that happens around me – whether it's behind the scenes, on the go, or simply life around me.
Although it might be capable of more than I actually need, the GR III X has taken me back to my roots. It awakens my curiosity to discover and photograph new things. Sometimes I just point and shoot, hoping for the perfect shot, just like at the beginning of my photographic journey.
Nevertheless, I'm not entirely satisfied with my results yet. I haven't figured out what I want to use the camera for specifically. But that's precisely what makes it so exciting for me. It inspires me to see the world with different eyes and to photograph it differently.
Perhaps I'm not a travel photographer. Perhaps I need to become one to learn how. But one thing is certain: the GR III X opens up new perspectives for me and lets me experience the world in a very special way.
